Urgent cases in hospitals in Portimão, Loures and Leiria with longer waiting times

Five emergency rooms closed this Saturday and Sunday, one of them is in Portimão

Portimão hospitals, Loures and Leiria this Tuesday have the longest waiting time for emergency care, exceeding three hours, according to the National Health Service (SNS) portal.

According to the SNS website that indicates waiting times for general emergency care, the longest waiting time is at 2:15 pm at the Betriz Ângelo hospital, in Loures (Lisbon district).

For general urgency, a patient classified as urgent (third on a scale of five) will have to wait, on average, 6:39 hours to be seen, with 14 people in the queue, but the time decreases to 15 minutes for very urgent patients.

At the Portimão hospital (Faro district), belonging to the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve, urgent cases will take, on average, 05:36 hours to be treated, with 21 people in the queue.

As for very urgent patients, the estimated average waiting time is 41 minutes, with three people in the queue, and less urgent and non-urgent patients have to wait more than four hours each to be seen.

As for the Santo André hospital, in Leiria, the average waiting time for urgent patients is 03:04 hours (24 people in the queue) and 04:23 hours for less urgent patients (17 people), being only nine minutes for patients very urgent.

Six emergency Gynecology/Obstetrics, Pediatrics and General services are closed this Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the National Health Service (SNS) Emergency Scales.

According to information published on the SNS Portal on Monday night, the pediatric emergencies at Hospital Beatriz Ângelo, in Loures, the Hospital Distrital de Torres Vedras and the Hospital de Peniche are closed.

The Hospital de Abrantes and the Hospital Distrital das Caldas da Rainha have the Gynecology and Obstetrics emergency department closed, while the Peniche Hospital has the general emergency department closed.

On New Year’s Day, there are also six closed emergency rooms, but the emergency rooms at Peniche Hospital are open and the general and pediatric emergency rooms at Hospital de São Joao da Madeira are closed.

The data shows that the number of emergencies referenced is 10 this Tuesday and increases to 11 on New Year’s Day, one more than the day before, and open services remain at 188.

Since December 16, pregnant women have had to call the SNS Grávida line before resorting to the obstetrics and gynecology emergency department of the hospitals that joined the project that started in a pilot phase in 11 Local Health Units (ULS), mostly in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, and in three units that voluntarily joined the project: Hospital de Gaia, Centro Materno Infantil do Norte and Hospital de Portalegre.

From January onwards, the ULS on the Setúbal Peninsula will join the project, namely Almada-Seixal, Arco Ribeirinho and Setúbal.
