The New Year is a time when we want every detail in the home to look flawless. White tablecloths are an important part of the festive decoration of many Slovak households. However, using them and exposing them to dust or greasy stains from holiday meals can cause them to lose their pristine appearance. Fortunately, there is an easy way to restore the original shine of white tablecloths without the use of chemical bleaches. All it takes is a trick using products that everyone has in their kitchen.

The secret of white tablecloths. Why is soaking so important?

Although white tablecloths are beautiful, they are susceptible to the accumulation of dirt, such as dust, greasy food stains or cigarette smoke stains. Regular washing often cannot deal with deep soiling, and inappropriate cleaning methods can lead to permanent soiling of fabrics.

The key to regaining pristine whiteness is proper fabric preparation, i.e. pre-soaking with bleach, preferably homemade.

  • The home method is based on the use of citric acid and dishwashing liquid.
  • Citric acid is excellent for brightening fabrics, removing gray spots and restoring whiteness.
  • Dishwashing liquid, in turn, effectively dissolves greasy stains caused by feasting.

By soaking, the white tablecloth will regain its purity and will be easier to clean in the washing machine.

How to wet a white tablecloth? Proven home method

The basic step on the way to an intact white tablecloth is the preparation of the soaking solution.

  1. Depending on the size of the tablecloth, pour warm water into the bowl or tub (but not hot, so as not to damage the fabric).
  2. Then add 20 g of citric acid and 3-5 drops of dishwashing detergent to the water.
  3. Submerge the fabric in the solution so that it is completely below the surface of the water and leave it on for about 30 minutes. During this time, the active ingredients begin to work, removing impurities and restoring whiteness.
  4. After this time, simply throw the tablecloth into the washing machine.

It is important to follow the manufacturer’s washing recommendations. This type of care will preserve not only the perfect whiteness, but also the structure of the fabric.

  • For example, tablecloths made of polyester are best washed at 30-40°C, while tablecloths made of linen or cotton may require a much higher temperature, even up to 60°C, but at lower spin speeds.

Soaking is a simple, cheap and ecological way to restore the whiteness of your white tablecloths. By using this method, you will not only refresh the tablecloths, but also avoid the need to use aggressive chemicals. Your home will be fresher and the snow-white tablecloth will be a beautiful decoration for your table.
