P in a few hours and in Greece. At 12 midnight a crowd of people will welcome the new year, 2025, in the hope that it will be better than the year gone. People in Athens will gather to change time with live concerts.

However, the time change does not happen at the same time all over the planet. Some countries have already changed the year and have been living in 2025 for some time now, while some others will change long after our country.

New Zealand, the Kiribati Islands, Cambodia, Japan and Australia have welcomed 2025, with hundreds of fireworks lighting up the sky in a spectacular show.

In Australia, thousands of people from all over the world came to Sydney to watch the spectacle. Organizers have been preparing for tonight’s fiesta for the past 15 months, and it took two weeks to install the spectacular fireworks.

Hong Kong Harbor is bathed in light and glitter. Thousands of fireworks are launched into the sky from land and sea. With a unique light and sound show, the city welcomes the new year.

In New Zealand, thousands of residents and visitors of the island country celebrated the arrival of the new year in the capital Auckland.

For five minutes, the 328-meter Sky Tower and the city’s harbor were illuminated by colorful fireworks.

In Japan, Tokyo’s city hall is lit by hundreds of sparklers. Thousands of residents of the Japanese capital gathered to welcome together 2025, which according to the Asian calendar, is the year of the snake.

China and Taiwan celebrated the New Year with light shows and fireworks in several major cities, although according to the Chinese calendar the advent of 2025 is on January 29.

In Beijing, celebrations took place at a former steel mill in the city’s western suburbs, while in Shanghai, crowds gathered to watch photorhythmic shows along the world-famous Waterfront Promenade and other locations.

With the song “We are the champions” by the legendary rock band Queen, Taiwan welcomed 2025. Thousands of fireworks lit up the Taipei 101 tower, creating a unique spectacle. Giant screens carried the message of a happy new year.

New Year’s celebrations vary from country to country depending on the time zones. According to the Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) system, the last country or region to enter the new year will be Baker and Howland Islands in the UTC-12 time zone.

Baker and Howland Islands are located in the South Pacific Ocean, below the Equator, in the United States of America. Therefore, the New Year celebrations start last compared to the rest of the world. These islands are the last to enter the new year, being further west of the international line. In 2025, the United States’ Baker and Howland Islands are the last to enter the new year.
