Brazil assumed this Wednesday (1) the rotating presidency of the a bloc that includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia and Iran. This will be the fourth time that the country leads the organization, which seeks to strengthen ties between emerging nations. The motto chosen for this period is “Strengthening Cooperation in the Global South for more Inclusive and Sustainable Governance”. The main focus of the Brazilian presidency will be on two axes: cooperation between countries in the Global South and the reform of global governance, aiming for greater inclusion in international decisions. During its mandate, Brazil plans to implement actions that promote more sustainable and inclusive governance. Among the initiatives are encouraging economic cooperation, financing projects aimed at combating climate change and the development of artificial intelligence technologies.

The priorities of the Brazilian presidency of BRICS include facilitating trade and investment between the bloc’s members. Furthermore, there will be an effort to promote inclusive governance in the field of artificial intelligence, recognizing the importance of this technology for the future. Another important point will be the improvement of financing structures to face the challenges of climate change, in dialogue with the Conference of the Parties (COP30). Brazil will also seek to encourage cooperation projects between countries in the Global South, with an emphasis on public health and the institutional strengthening of Brics.
