The CEO of the Sugar Bowl, Jeff Hundley, announced that the game scheduled for this Wednesday (1st) will be postponed until Thursday (2nd) after the collision that killed 10 people in New Orleans.

“It is in the best interest of everyone and public safety that we postpone the game for 24 hours,” Hundley announced at a press conference.

The annual college football game would be held this Wednesday night and attracts fans from across the country.

This year’s Sugar Bowl will feature the University of Georgia and the University of Notre Dame, with the winner advancing to the College Football Playoff semifinals.

New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said at the press conference that authorities “have a plan and we are implementing it” to maintain the future safety of citizens in the game.

According to Kirkpatrick, the plan includes deploying officers in the area and around Ceasar’s Superdome, where the Sugar Bowl will be held, to look for any suspicious items.

Planning is also expected to have “bomb dogs” around the exterior of the Superdome area, which will be blocked off during Thursday’s game.
