Israeli attacks kill 10 people in al-Mawasi

An Israeli airstrike killed at least 10 Palestinians, including women and children, this Thursday (Jan. 2, 2025) in a camp in Al-Mawasi that housed displaced families in southern Africa, according to a report from doctors to the Reuters news agency .

According to Al-Aqsa TV, the director general of the Gaza police department, Mahmoud Salah, and his advisor were killed in the air strike carried out by Israel. Another 15 Palestinians were injured.

“Overnight, the IAF (acronym for the Israeli Air Forces) conducted an intelligence-based strike on the Humanitarian Area in Khan Yunis and eliminated the head of the Hamas Internal Security Forces in the southern Gaza Strip, terrorist Hassam Shahwan . Prior to the attack, numerous measures were taken to mitigate the risk of harming civilians, including the use of precision munitions, aerial surveillance and additional intelligence.”says the statement from the Israel Defense Forces.

The text continues: “The terrorist organization Hamas systematically violates international law, while exploiting the civilian infrastructure and population of Gaza as human shields for terrorist activities. The IDF will continue to operate against terrorist organizations in defense of the citizens of Israel.”.

The Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that Israeli quadcopters were firing at Gaza City and that the Israeli military “residential buildings continue to explode west of the Jabalia field”.

The agency further reported that 4 Palestinians were killed in an Israeli attack on the al-Shati refugee camp, which is west of Gaza City, in the north of the Gaza Strip. “Since dawn today, 15 citizens have been killed and dozens injured in occupation bombings against various parts of the Gaza Strip, 11 of them in Khan Younis”says the agency.

Local sources told Wafa that Israeli forces entered the city on Wednesday (Jan 1) night to perform Talmudic rituals at Islamic shrines. During the incursion, residents’ homes and vehicles were attacked, causing significant damage. Previously, Israeli forces invaded the city and closed the iron gate at its entrance, forcing store owners to close their businesses and restricting the movement of residents, according to broadcaster Al Jazeera.

It was further reported that Israeli forces invaded the occupied West Bank city, arresting a man from the Ras al-Ein neighborhood, near the Church of the Nativity, and another man from the Karkafa area in the city center. Israeli forces also issued orders for the forced eviction of Palestinian families in the Khirbet Tana area, near the town of Beit Furik, east of Nablus, according to Quds News Network.
