A 28-year-old man, born in Teresina (PI), was arrested red-handed last Wednesday (1st) in Jacobina (340 kilometers from Salvador) after a series of crimes committed between Senhor do Bonfim, Philadelphia and Capim Grosso, in northern Bahia.
According to the Public Security Secretariat of Bahia, he is suspected of embezzlement, theft, robbery, driving a vehicle without a license and under the influence of alcohol, as well as attacks on employees of a health unit.
According to the ministry, the sequence of crimes began on the afternoon of December 31, when the suspect stole a Toyota Hilux from a businesswoman at a car wash in Senhor do Bonfim. Witnesses told police that the man, whose name was not released, posed as the victim’s son to take the vehicle. Soon after, he drove to Philadelphia, filled up at a gas station and fled without paying.
From there, he went to Capim Grosso, where he was intercepted by the Military Police. Drunk and without a license, the man was arrested and taken to the Jacobina Police Station. The vehicle was recovered.
Later, around 9pm, he pretended to have lost the movement of his legs and was taken to the Jacobina Emergency Care Unit (UPA), where he was awaiting treatment for hospital.
According to the police, the man took advantage of a moment of distraction to remove his handcuffs and steal the cell phone from a nursing technician and the wallet from a patient, who was unconscious after an accident. Delegate Paulo Victor Muniz highlighted that the accused tried to deceive the medical team with false symptoms.
“He even tried to deceive the doctor who treated him. When he was at the police station, he began to complain of feeling unwell, claiming that he was unable to move his legs. We called a medical expert from the Technical Police Department, who provided initial assistance and requested that a unit from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) be sent. Upon arriving at the UPA, he continued trying to deceive people and, even while handcuffed, managed to commit other illegal acts”, reported delegate Paulo Victor Muniz.
On the same night, during an attempt to escape from the medical unit, the man attacked employees and was restrained by the team.
The individual was recaptured by the Bahia Civil Police and taken back to the Jacobina police station. There, the arrest was recorded and his preventive arrest was requested. In a statement, the secretariat informed that he remains detained in the unit.
