US President says videos published by Shamsud Din Jabbar expressed “a desire to kill”

The President of the United States, Joe Biden (Democratic Party), on Wednesday (January 1, 2025) that the suspected perpetrator of a mob in New Orleans published videos that indicated that he was inspired by ISIS (Islamic State) . So far, more than 30 have been injured.

The suspect was identified by the FBI (Federal Bureau of InvestigationUS police) as Shamsud Din Jabbar. An IS flag was found in the car, prompting concerns about possible links to terrorist organizations. “The FBI also informed me that just hours before the attack he posted videos on social media indicating that he was inspired by the Islamic State”, declared Biden.

According to Biden, the videos expressed “a desire to kill”. The US president stated that authorities continue to look for “by any secondary connections, associations or conspirators”.

He stated: “We have nothing additional to report at this time. Research remains active and no one should jump to conclusions”.

Jabbar on active duty from 2006 to 2015 and then in reserve from 2015 to 2020, according to information from US defense authorities.

In 2009, he was deployed to Afghanistan, where he served as an administrative clerk. He achieved the rank of sergeant and was honorably discharged in 2020.

Jabbar was armed and driving a white pickup truck when he ran over several people on Bourbon Street, around 3am on Wednesday (1st January). In addition to the IS flag, the car was carrying weapons and a “potential”improvised explosive.

After the collision, Jabbar got out of the vehicle and started shooting. Police officers present at the scene returned fire and killed the man, who had not yet been identified at that time.

Alethea Duncan, FBI assistant special agent in New Orleans, said investigators do not believe the suspect “was solely responsible” for the attack. “We are investigating all leads, including those of his known associates”, he declared.
