Nunes says he wants to be the number 1 public servant in São Paulo

The mayor of the capital of São Paulo assumed his 2nd term in office this Wednesday (January 1st); was re-elected with 59.35% of the votes

The mayor of São Paulo, (MDB), assumed this Wednesday (1st January 2025) his 2nd term in office. The mayor on October 27, 2024 with 59.35% of valid votes.

In his inauguration speech, Nunes stated that he wants to be the best public servant in the city. “I want to be the number 1 public servant in the city of São Paulo, as I have already been doing. I want to continue like this, being the first to arrive, the last to leave, the one who tries the most to get things right, the one who meets goals the most, the one who dedicates himself the most and, above all, I will continue to serve with humility“, he said. He also highlighted achievements from his first term during his speech. He spoke for around 30 minutes at the São Paulo City Council.

Throughout his speech, Nunes repeated the phrase “São Paulo is bigger and more important than any of us”in reference to the phrase used by Bruno Covas when taking over as mayor of São Paulo in 2021.

Ricardo Nunes was on October 27, 2024 against (Psol) in the 2nd round. The abstention rate was 31.54%. In other words, of the 9,322,444 voters eligible to vote, 2,940,360 did not vote.

WHO IS RICARDO NUNES

  • Ricardo Luís Reis Nunes was born in São Paulo on November 13, 1967;
  • He is a businessman, lives in the south of São Paulo and has been a member of the MDB since he was 18 years old;
  • was elected councilor of São Paulo in 2012 and re-elected in 2016;
  • as a councilor, he reported on the city’s LDO (Budget Guidelines Law) for 6 years and worked on CPIs such as Tax Evasion, Active Debt, Municipal Theater and Tax Evasion;
  • in 2020, he was elected vice-mayor on the ticket headed by the toucan Bruno Covas (1980-2021);
  • He took office as Mayor of São Paulo in May 2021, after the death of Covas, a victim of cancer.
