The funeral allowance increases from the amount of 79.67 euros to 200 euros from the new year. This follows from the amendment to the Act on Funeral Allowance, which took effect effective from January 1. The proponents justified the change by necessity take into account current economic conditions and ensure sufficient financial support for survivors.
“Since the last adjustment of the amount of the funeral allowance in 2007, there have been to a significant increase in the cost of living, including the prices of funeral serviceswhich caused the current contribution amount to be insufficient to cover the costs associated with the funeral,” argued the proponents who pushed through the change in parliament. An increase in allowance according to them it will contribute to social justice and lead to the easing of the financial burden on families after the loss of a loved one.
