The first session of the year exposed the difficulties that the party will face in 2025. This Wednesday (1st), the party’s councilors were divided in the vote of the leadership that commands the House.
The mayor’s base parties have an agreement that has been repeated for several years according to which, in exchange for the votes of their councilors in the dispute for the presidency of the Chamber, President Lula’s party wins the first secretary of the Board.
The PT councilors then voted for the government candidate, Ricardo Teixeira (União), who was elected. In exchange, Hélio Rodrigues (PT) received the votes of the government supporters and became first secretary, a post that had been occupied by Alessandro Guedes (PT).
However, of the seven PL councilors, only four voted for him, following the agreement: Isac Félix, Gilberto Nascimento Junior, Sandra Tadeu and Rute Costa.
Bolsonaro supporters Lucas Pavanato, Sonaira Fernandes and Zoe Martinez took a contrary position.
In her vote, Sandra Tadeu said: “always complying with agreements, it is extremely important to comply with the agreement”. Afterwards, Pavanato replied: “above the House’s agreements is the agreement I made with my voters”.
Among allies of Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) and municipal PL leaders, there is fear that it will not be possible to count on the support of the Bolsonarist group in all votes in the House and that, therefore, there will be a lack of support on more delicate issues in the coming years .
