A teenager living in Curitiba was shot in the arm during the New Year’s Eve fireworks display in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro. Bárbara Beraldo, 14, was close to the water when she felt the impact: “I even looked back thinking it was a joke,” she said. The girl is doing well after receiving care at Hospital Souza Aguiar.
The teenager, who was born in France and currently lives in Curitiba, planned the trip to Rio to fulfill her dream of seeing the famous fireworks display. It was the father who told the girl that she had been shot, which also grazed him.

“I saw the fireworks display and I felt a blow to my arm, very strong. So I even looked back to see if someone had thrown something, as a joke, and then my father looked at me and said ‘you were shot’. I was desperate, I only knew how to scream, so I had no other reaction”, says the young woman, still quite scared.
Dad didn’t want to go to the party
According to the portal, the bullet must have been fired from a distant point, so the injuries were only superficial. So, more than the injuries, there was the trauma and frustration of having to give up a car trip to the Northeast of Brazil, which was canceled after this frightening event.
“I believe the shot came from above. He also grabbed my leg. I actually don’t want to go to Copacabana anymore, but it was her wish and I wanted to make her dream come true. But, really, I don’t bring her here anymore”, says Ayron Lacerda, Bárbara’s father, who lives in France and does not intend to return to Rio de Janeiro, at least anytime soon.
