Ricardo Costa, SIC’s information director, says that it is “absolutely clear” the path that the President of the Republic wants the government to follow in 2025 – and it involves repeating a recipe from 2024.
Already Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa called for “common sense” and “institutional solidarity” between the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister, arguing that Portugal cannot lose its freedom or democracy.
“It’s not a very strong speech, but it’s clear. It shows what Portugal’s biggest problems are and tries to draw the attention of the main stakeholders that democracy is not a given”, says Ricardo Costa.
For SIC’s information director, Marcelo also tried to show the country’s two main parties, PS and PSD, that “if they don’t know how to face these issues – inequality, reform of the political system and economic growth – they themselves are the ones who are at stake.”
The head of state, who is just over a year away from finishing his term, “makes it clear that for Portugal to have the possibility of growth it is necessary to maintain the idea of being a predictable and stable country”.
“It is absolutely clear in the words of the President of the Republic that what happened in 2024 should happen again in 2025, that is, that the main parties involved – Government and opposition parties – should find solutions so that Portugal can continue to be predictable and stable”, considers Ricardo Costa.
