Voldímir Zelenski He is confident that 2025 will be the year in which the war against Russia ends thanks to the coming to power of Donald Trump. The Ukrainian leader showed his confidence in the US president-elect last Tuesday in his New Year’s speech, pointing out that the American “is willing” to end the conflictfor which the aggression of Russian President Vladimir Putin will have to be stopped.
Zelensky noted that the current conflict cannot be resolved simply by mediating between the parties, and stressed that the United States has been a crucial ally for Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion. “I have no doubt that the new American president is willing and able to achieve peace and end Putin’s aggression. He understands that the first is impossible without the second”he explained.
The Ukrainian president recalled the conversations he has had with Trump and outgoing president Joe Biden, ensuring that Both administrations have agreed that Russia should not prevail in the conflict.
The Ukrainian president also thanked its international partners for their support, highlighting Washington’s position as a pillar in the Ukrainian struggle. “I thank all Americans for demonstrating these words with actions,” he said, referring to the military and financial support that has allowed Ukraine to resist the Russian invasion.
He also expressed his confidence that Both Ukraine and the United States have the ability to exert the force necessary to “force Russia into a just peace”.
Looking ahead to 2025, he highlighted the importance of Ukraine remaining “strong enough” to ensure its respect and recognition both on the battlefield and at the negotiating tables. “Let 2025 be our year. The year of Ukraine. We know that peace will not be given to us, but we will do everything possible to stop Russia and end the war. This is what we all want,” he added.
