Why do people think NASA discovered a “parallel universe”?

No, NASA did not discover a parallel universe with time moving backwards. It’s another conspiracy theory, and it’s ANITA’s fault.

If you’ve been scrolling through social media recently, you may have come across sensationalist claims about NASA’s discovery of a parallel universe in Antarctica.

According to the claims, this parallel universe would have been formed next to ours. during or Big Bang and it would be working the opposite of our perspective — .

But will these statements are true? Has NASA really found a twin universe where time runs backwards?

No, NASA has not found any parallel universe. The claims circulating on social media are not based on new scientific discoveries, but on a distorted interpretation of ancient studies.

The origins of this controversy date back to 2020, when researchers working with the Antarctic Impulsive Transient Antenna (ANITA) experiment detected one — tiny, almost massless particles that rarely interact with matter.

ANITA’s were indeed disconcerting and led scientists to theorize. One such hypothesis, published in a response to the findings, suggested the possibility of a “symmetric universe CPT“, where time could flow in the opposite direction to ours.

“In this scenario, the universe before the Big Bang and the universe after the Big Bang are reinterpreted as a universe/anti-universe pair that is created out of nothing,” the paper’s authors wrote.

The discoveries were originally covered by an article titled “We may have spotted a parallel universe going backwards in time”.

From then on, it was chaos on the Internet. Articles published in various media outlets began to state, with alarming certaintywhich was evidence of a parallel universe.

However, these articles ignored the crucial fact: the ANITA results required further investigation and did not provide conclusive proof of the existence of such a universe.

At the time, Alex Pizzutoa researcher involved in analyzing ANITA’s detections, turned to social media to deny the claims, recalls .

“ANITA, a detector flying in Antarctica, detected some strange signals. These signals are difficult (but not impossible) to explain with our current physics models”, wrote Pizzuto on the old Twitter.

“Scientists try to find ways to modify our understanding of physics to make these detections more plausible,” explained the researcher.

“SOME of these ways require bizarre ideas in addition to the standard model, like the one in the news. However, there are also some explanations COMPLETELY not exotic“, highlighted Pizzuto at the time.

So, let’s be clear: ANITA went to Antarctica but did not find a parallel universe.
