The fire in Songnam City probably started in the kitchen and spread through the ventilation shaft.
More than 300 people were evacuated after a fire broke out in an eight-story commercial building in the South Korean city of Songnam, south of Seoul, on Friday. The fire was extinguished, no serious injuries were reported during its liquidation or during the evacuation, reports TASR with reference to the report of the Jonhap agency.
The fire broke out at 16:37 local time (08:37 CET), and was completely extinguished in about an hour. More than 260 firefighters with 80 pieces of equipment responded to the scene.
It is believed to have started in the kitchen of the restaurant on the first floor of the building and spread through the ventilation shaft. Firefighters said they evacuated more than 240 people, and another 70 people evacuated on their own. Approximately 130 people inhaled the fumes of the fire.
