The highest average monthly air temperature of 2.7 degrees Celsius was measured in Bratislava-Mlynská dolina. The lowest average monthly air temperature was minus 2.2 degrees Celsius in the village of Stratená-Dobšinská ice cave. This follows from the preliminary evaluation of the month, which was reported by the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) on its website.
Meteorologists measured the absolute lowest air temperature in locations up to 1,000 meters above sea level on December 14 in the village of Oravice, minus 12.3 degrees Celsius. The absolute highest air temperature of 14.6 degrees Celsius was measured on December 28 at the meteorological station Štós-kupele.
At the same time, the month of December was strongly subnormal to normal in terms of precipitation in most of Slovakia. “The percentage of normal monthly rainfall was the highest in Prešov (76.9 percent) and the lowest in Banská Štiavnica (24.8 percent),” explained SHMÚ. The lowest monthly total was recorded at the Gánovce rain gauge station, namely 7.9 millimeters. According to the institute, the highest monthly rainfall total was at the Lubina station, namely 51.4 millimeters.
