The FBI has stated that it believes the New Orleans attacker, 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, was “100% inspired by the Islamic State” and that in the coming days they will further investigate his “path to radicalization.”
“What I can say now is that he was 100% inspired by the terrorist group. We’re looking for more information on social media, more interviews, working with some of our other partners to dig a little deeper into this connection,” explained Christopher Raia, deputy assistant director of the FBI’s Counterterrorism Division, at a press conference this morning. In a series of videos, the suspect discussed planning to kill his own family and had dreams that killed him, according to several authorities briefed on the investigation.
