Martens are quite sensitive to smells. That’s why he hates anything that has a strong aroma. Bet on dog (or cat) pollen
Interestingly, another “folk repellent” of marten is also based on an olfactory trail. Our grandmothers already knew that martens hate the smell of dogs. That’s why they deliberately let their pets into the attic to “mark” it nicely. Having soil peeing from a dog is a much better solution than having stained soil from martens, which have very aromatic droppings. But if such a more drastic solution bothers you, you can try a gentler way – old dog (or cat) litter! Always place it in a very visible place on the ground and martens will definitely not stay there for long.
