Kauan Galdino Florêncio Pereira, 18, was brain dead after being shot in the head after stepping on a drug dealer’s foot in Queimados, Baixada Fluminense. The information was released this Tuesday (3/1) by the Nova Iguaçu General Hospital (HGNI).

The young man, an amateur football player, was shot after a disagreement with a drug dealer in the region.

According to police information, the suspect is a drug dealer known as De Ferro, who was reportedly angry at having his foot stepped on by the victim. Witnesses reported that the criminal ordered Kauan to apologize, but the young man, nervous, did not heed the order.

Kauan was confirmed brain dead on Thursday night (2/1). The family went to the hospital, but was only informed on Friday morning (3/1).

The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro reported that steps are being taken to “ascertain who was responsible for the crime”.

According to , partner of Metropolisesthrough social media, the young man’s family made an appeal for blood donations. According to Nova Iguaçu City Hall, Kauan was admitted to the hospital’s ICU, with a health condition considered very serious.

Friends and family said that Kauan was passionate about football and played as a goalkeeper in amateur matches.
