Two influential elements of Portuguese Freemasonry publicly revealed their support for Gouveia e Melo as a candidate for the Presidency of the Republic. The “hasty” decision is committing the Admiral to Freemasonry when he has not yet confirmed his candidacy.
The former leaders of the José Manuel Anes and Paulo Noguês are launching the “Movement to Support the Admiral for the Presidency” which will be officially presented on January 13th.
This public support from two influential freemasons comes at a time when he has not yet officially declared himself a candidate for Belém, although his candidacy is seen as certain.
Gouveia e Melo may be “a little upset”
José Manuel Anes, former Grand Master of the Grande Loja Legal de Portugal, assumes in the “Explicador” program on Rádio Observador that the intention of this group of “friends” of the Admiral is also pass some “calm” on to your admirersat a time when they feel “anguish” over the fact that the candidacy has not yet been announced.
In this sense, Anes also admits that Gouveia e Melo may have been “a little boring” with the “attitude” of this group of liking to “keep their own rhythms”. “Don’t like being pressured into anything“, he highlights.
The former Masonic leader also notes that the decision to launch this support was not communicated to the Admiral and that, therefore, until there was “a rush”.

“The Admiral is not a Freemason”
Anes also highlights that they had “several contacts” with the Admiral and notes that the group’s members believe that the candidacy for Belém “will happen”, although they do not have this confirmation.
“He knows who we areyou know that you have our support”, he adds, stressing that the support movement is “just a nucleus for the future organization of the campaign structure”.
The former Grand Master also makes a point of highlighting that “the Admiral is not a Freemason“, even ruling out that the support comes from the support as a whole. It belongs to just a few Freemasons, he highlights, stressing that it also supported Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa in a personal capacity in the last presidential elections.
As for the reasons that justify his support for , Anes highlights his “admiration for the work he did, for his organizational, discipline and leadership capacity”.
The support of these influential Freemasons was made public on Facebook by Paulo Noguês, who cited “a group of friends”speaking specifically about José Manuel Anes.
Jose Manuel Anes shared this publication on his profile on the same social network, highlighting that he also supports the Admiral.
