As we enter the new year, the Portuguese have set goals for 2025 and one of the most talked about goals is related to physical exercise. It is important for health, but it is also necessary to acquire a taste for physical exercise, so that it can be practiced regularly. So, to begin with, you can choose to take short walks by the sea and change the scenery every day. The island of Tavira, in the Algarve, could be your first choice.
In total, the island of Tavira is 11 kilometers long. If you want to do a little more than a half-marathon, you can walk from end to end of the island and back, but you can always adapt the distance to suit your needs. The beaches that are filled with towels in the summer are deserted in the colder months, which is why the island of Tavira is one of the ideal places for hiking.
You can either reach the island via the pedestrian bridge that connects it with Pedras D’el Rei, or you can access it by boat, from the city center of Tavira or from Quatro Águas pier. If you choose the pedestrian bridge, be aware that access to the island is free. However, boat trips are paid. If you depart from the city of Tavira, the return ticket costs 2.50 euros, but if you leave from Quatro Águas, the return ticket costs 1.90 euros.
It is worth mentioning that the island stands out for its natural landscape, as you can find very few houses there. Throughout your tour you will be able to appreciate the dunes, as well as all the fauna that guide the island’s landscape.
Along the way you will also come across some of the most famous beaches in the region, namely Praia da Ilha de Tavira, Praia da Terra Estreita, Praia do Barril and Praia do Homem Nu.
