He died this Thursday at the age of 66, in Mallorca, as a result of cancer, as reported by Agencia Efe. Born in Caracas (Venezuela), the socialist was at the head of the island Government in two stages: between 1999 and 2003 and, subsequently, from 2007 to 2011. Between both periods, he served as a deputy in Congress and, from June 2011 to 2016, after losing the regional elections, he held a seat as a regional senator, as well as in another period between May and September 2019. His last public position was that of president of the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands, which he was forced to leave due to the illness he suffered and against which he fought in recent years.
