One has revealed that the majority of German citizens support the idea of deploying international peacekeepers to Ukraine in case of a ceasefire in the war with Russia. However, support for the direct participation of German troops in a mission of this type is significantly less.
The survey, carried out online between December 20 and 23, 2024 with the participation of 2,194 people, shows that 56% of respondents support the idea of sending international peacekeepers to Ukraine19% are fundamentally against and 25% remain undecided.
However, When it comes to Germany’s participation in a possible mission only 23% support the deployment of German soldierswhile 33% are categorically opposed. The rest did not express a clear opinion.
Difference of opinions among German politicians
The issue has generated divided opinions among German political leaders. Olaf Scholzchancellor of Germany, considers premature to publicly discuss a peace mission due to lack of preconditions for a ceasefire. Likewise, he rejects for the moment the sending of German troops.

For its part, Annalena Baerbock, Minister of Foreign Affairs, expresses the Germany’s commitment to work for peace and ensures that the country will do everything possible to guarantee it.
Friedrich Merzleader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), supports the idea of a German deploymentbut only under a clear international mandate and, preferably, with the consensus of Russia.
