Yemen reportedly launched a missile and a drone to attack Israel. The army managed to capture both of them.
The Israeli army announced that it had shot down both a missile and a drone that were launched from Yemen on its territory on Friday. TASR informs about it according to the report of the AFP agency.
“A rocket that was fired from Yemen and reached Israeli territory has been intercepted,” the army announced on the Telegram platform. It added that it had received and was investigating a report that debris from a defused rocket had landed in the area around the city of Modi’in in central parts of Israel.
The Israeli rescue service Red Star of David (Magen David Adom) subsequently informed that it provided medical treatment to several people in the central or southern part of the country. These were either people who were injured when they rushed to cover after the sirens went off, or had panic attacks.
They also shot down a drone
A few hours after the missile was neutralized, the army announced that it had also shot down a drone, also launched from Yemen. She allegedly neutralized it even before it reached the territory of Israel.
AFP reminds that Israel last reported on Tuesday that it had neutralized a rocket fired from Yemen.
The Yemeni Houthi rebels, supported by Iran, have been attacking Israel with rockets and drones since the beginning of the war in the Gaza Strip – that is, since October 2023. In addition, they also attack ships sailing in the Red Sea. According to their explanation, it is a show of solidarity with the Palestinians and an effort to force Israel to end the military operation in Gaza.
The Houthis escalated their attacks even more after Israel concluded a truce with the Lebanese militant movement Hezbollah, which is also supported by Iran, in November 2024, AFP reports. In return, Israel has also hit several targets in Yemen – ports and energy facilities in areas controlled by the Houthis, and at the end of November it also attacked the international airport in the Yemeni capital, Sana’a.
