The world’s largest and most visited porn website is now unavailable to users in seventeen US states. Last year, Louisiana became the first state to require IDto allow anyone over the age of eighteen to access Pornhub. Since January 1, more states have been added, while most of them do not require authorization of the age of majority with a national ID card, but block the websites straight away.
Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, South Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Virginia joined those states on Wednesday (January 1). Georgia and Louisiana have adopted restrictions on the content of adult sites, but do not ban them outright.
Aylo spokespersonwhich owns Pornhub and several other porn sites, said that while they support age verification features on adult content sites, some states have gone too far in their legislation.
“The way many jurisdictions around the world, including Florida, have chosen to implement age verification is ineffective, haphazard and dangerous. Any regulation that requires hundreds of thousands of adult sites to collect significant amounts of highly sensitive personal data puts users’ safety at risk.” said a spokesperson for Aylo.
These laws are unlikely to be properly enforced, causing users to simply visit non-compliant sites, or they will find other methods to circumvent these laws.
