“Based on evidence collected by the SBU, a Russian agent operating in the Chernivtsi region was convicted. The attacker was preparing missile strikes on oil tanks” in western Ukraine, the agency said in a post on the Telegram platform.
According to this source, the 36-year-old accused had been hiding “for two years” in the Chernivtsi region in order to avoid conscription and had contacts with Russian services. In a video posted online, he “set fire to the Ukrainian flag and declared loyalty to the Kremlin regime,” he added.
The suspect was arrested in June 2024. He was convicted of attempted high treason and “apologizing and denying the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.”
Ukrainian authorities have prosecuted hundreds of people for collaborating with Russia since the invasion in February 2022. Most are accused of passing sensitive information to the Russian military.
