The heads of the Armed Forces will participate in the president’s act to remember the destruction caused by January 8th. The event will be held at Praça dos Três Poderes on Wednesday (January 8, 2025), starting at 9:30 am. The date marks 2 years since the attack.
O Poder360 found that squadron admiral Marcos Sampaio Olsen (Navy), general Tomás Paiva (Army) and air lieutenant brigadier Marcelo Damasceno (Aeronautics) will attend at Lula’s request. The idea is to give institutional symbolism to the act after the PF (Federal Police) report on an attempted coup d’état in 2022 indicated active participation by members of the Forces, including the High Command.
The 1st event will be held at Palácio do Planalto, with the reintegration and delivery of destroyed works of art. Then, at 10:30 am, there will be the unveiling of the work “As Mulatas” (1962), by Di Cavalcanti, damaged during the invasion.
There will also be a symbolic act with the participation of Lula. The ceremony foresees that the president will walk down the ramp of the Palácio do Planalto with members of the Three Powers, similar to the walk taken the day after the attacks in 2023.
In addition to the commanders of the Armed Forces and members of the Three Powers, representatives from Iphan (Institute of National Historical and Artistic Heritage), UFPEL (Federal University of Pelotas) and social movements will also participate in the ceremony.
