British police identified one of the victims of the attack in New Orleans, United States, on New Year’s Day, as Edward Pettifer, a 31-year-old London citizen whose stepmother was nanny to Princes William and Harry.
He was among 14 people killed by a US Army veteran who swore allegiance to the Islamic State and ran over a crowd of people with a pickup truck celebrating New Year’s Eve.
“The entire family is devastated by the tragic news of Ed’s death in New Orleans,” in a statement published by London police.
Prince William said he and his wife, Kate,
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Pettifer family and all those innocent people who were tragically impacted by this horrific attack,” he said in a post on social media.
A British royal family source said King Charles III was also saddened to hear of Pettifer’s death and that he had contacted the family to pay his condolences.
