Revealed by Santos, former midfielder César Sampaio returns to the club to take over as a new permanent technical assistant after an invitation from the CEO, Pedro Martins. “In addition to having an identity with the club, he experienced and stood out at every stage at the highest level of football, as an athlete and later on the coaching staff, including playing for the Brazilian national team. He is a great reinforcement that will help us a lot”, said the CEO.
Marcelo Fernandes held this role before César Sampaio arrived. His departure was announced on Friday along with the dismissal of football executive Alexandre Gallo, physical trainer Carlito Macedo and goalkeeper trainer Arzul.
At 56 years old, César Sampaio will provide support and assistance to Pedro Caixinha’s technical committee. In the football department’s new organizational chart, the club’s permanent assistant will contribute with studies and analyzes to document criteria in technical management, such as game and athlete profiles.
Santos announced that the former Brazilian team midfielder will also be responsible for liaising with the under-20 category, with the aim of developing talent. He will also be responsible for providing interface and relationship with the players on the main team.
After retiring as a player, César Sampaio served as football manager at Palmeiras, football superintendent at Joinville and again football manager at Fortaleza. He was Tite’s assistant on the Brazilian team, from 2019 to 22, and then at Flamengo.
