Not every type of Christmas tree ends up in the same basket. We treat artificial and live trees differently. This, in turn, is divided into cut and potted. We also need to pay attention to this when segregating. It’s time to clear up any doubts.
Many people choose artificial Christmas trees because they last for many years. After the holidays, just remove the decorations, fold them and put them in their original packaging. If we don’t have it, just wrap the tree in foil.
After years of use, it’s time to get rid of the artificial Christmas tree. Small waste that can be broken down into parts is thrown into mixed waste. If it is too large, we have to take it ourselves to the Selective Municipal Waste Collection Point.

After Christmas, we remove all decorations from the fresh cut fruit and cut it into small pieces. Then we throw it into BIO waste, i.e. in a brown container.
In many communes trees are placed next to the containers (then we don’t have to cut them into pieces). Then they are collected from the garbage arbors.
Before putting your Christmas tree in the trash, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the green waste collection schedule. This way we will avoid littering the garbage shelters with piles of trees. Remember not to pack them in either foil or cardboard, as this will make segregation more difficult.
In the case of a potted Christmas tree, we must first remove it from the pot and only then throw it into BIO waste or place it next to the brown container.. Some municipalities accept such trees at a rendering plant. Then it has a chance to go to the nursery, where it will wait for a new buyer next year.
It is worth cutting the Christmas tree into small pieces and throwing it into the composter. We will obtain acidic compost, which will be ideal for acid-loving plants and conifers. We can also grind it in a branch shredder and use such chips as mulch.
Twigs with needles can provide protection for plants sensitive to frost. This is an ideal solution after the holidays, because it is in January and February that we experience the coldest weather. In turn, the trunk will serve as a support for the trees.
We can put a potted Christmas tree on a balcony or terrace, and plant it in the ground in spring. This applies to trees that were grown in a nursery. However, we must meet certain conditions.
Firstly the tree cannot be left in the house for longer than 14 daysso that its winter cycle is not disturbed. Secondly After removing the decorations, move them to a cool roomwhere the temperature is from 0 to 10 degrees Celsius. Thirdly – if we do not have such a room and we put the Christmas tree outside immediately, then we need to protect it against frost e.g. with agrotextile and water it so that it does not dry out. In spring it will be ready to be planted in the garden.
