Get it ready for Twelfth Night. You will provide prosperity for the whole family

Epiphany Day draws heavily on the magic that accompanied the Generous Wedding. The old Slavic holiday fell exactly at the time when we currently celebrate Christmas, New Year’s Eve and Epiphany (Generous Wedding lasted from December 21 to January 6). Some very interesting superstitions have been preserved from this period and are eagerly practiced. Most of them are very simple and, apart from potentially “magical” benefits, can also, for example, bring the family closer together. This is the case with one of the rituals that should be performed.

Family – its size is different for everyone. It can be either two people or twenty. Regardless of the number of our family members, it is worth making sure that their lives are better. One of the old superstitions is supposed to help with this. Even if it doesn’t fully fulfill its purpose, it will certainly be a nice gesture for your loved ones. According to this ritual, on January 6 we should prepare a sumptuous dinner for the whole family. What can be prepared? Whatever we want – , , , and lots of others. What matters is not to limit yourself. Of course, you shouldn’t overdo it with food, but the table should be well set.

Abundance and generosity were important elements on January 6, when the celebration of the Generous Wedding ended. Epiphany is also associated with this, because it was then that kings brought gifts. Preparing a large meal is supposed to ensure abundance in the new year. How much food to prepare? There should be enough of it that everyone who sits at the table will be satisfied. We should adjust the size of dishes to the number of family members so as not to waste food and at the same time ensure a plentiful table. If you also have four-legged friends, it is worth including them in this and adding a little more food or treats to your cat’s or dog’s bowl.

No one should run out of food during this type of dinner. Such abundance is supposed to make us spend the whole year in prosperity. Moreover, a shared meal is a great opportunity to spend nice time with your family.

In addition to a large dinner for the whole family, you can also use other superstitions, including hiding a coin under your pillow or a blessed penny in your wallet. It is a Christian custom to write the kings’ initials and the year in white chalk on the door. This is to protect the inhabitants and provide them with blessings. Moreover, if we have a real Christmas tree at home, it is a good idea not to leave any needles on the floor on this day, as it may be a sign of bad luck. Additionally, on January 6, it is worth lighting incense sticks at home, which are supposed to bring good luck.
