Tekohá Guasu Guavira Indigenous Land faces attacks 7 days ago in land dispute not within the state
Four indigenous people of the Avá Guarani ethnic group, 3 adults and a child, were shot on Friday night (Jan. 3, 2025), in western Paraná.
The indigenous people were surrounded by gunmen. The Tekohá Guasu Guavira Indigenous Land, between the cities of Guaíra and Terra Roxa, has been facing attacks for at least 7 days, according to the (Indigenist Missionary Council).
The attack left:
- a 4 year old child injured in the leg,
- a young man shot in the back,
- another indigenous person was also injured in the leg, and
- an indigenous man with a hole in his jaw caused by large-caliber ammunition.
Three of them were taken to Bom Jesus hospital, in Toledo. The 4th needed to be taken for treatment in Cascavel at a hospital with more infrastructure.

The Tekohá Guasu Guavira Indigenous Land suffered 4 attacks in the last 7 days:
- Sunday (Dec 29);
- Monday (Dec 30) – an indigenous woman had burns on her neck;
- Tuesday (Dec 31) – an indigenous man was shot in the arm;
- Friday (January 3) – 4 indigenous people were shot.
In addition to the injured, shacks and plantations were set on fire and families are homeless and without food or drinking water.
Cimi stated that the Avá Guarani contacted the (National Foundation of Indigenous Peoples), the (Ministry of Indigenous Peoples) and the (PPDDH-MDHC), which notified the EA about the episodes.
“Where were they when a four-year-old was shot? How many more people are going to have to take lead?”questioned the indigenous people.
To the Poder360the (Federal Police) stated that federal, state and municipal public security forces were at the scene “in order to prevent the occurrence of new episodes of violence”. It investigates the authorship and criminal responsibility of those involved.
