Date marks 2 years since the invasion and depredation of Congress, the STF and the Planalto Palace; Armed Forces will participate in the event
The government of the president (PT) will hold an event on Wednesday (8 January 2025) to remember the attacks of January 8th. The event will be at Praça dos Três Poderes from 9:30 am. The date marks 2 years since the invasion and depredation of the , the (Federal Supreme Court) and the Planalto Palace.
The ceremonial describes that Lula will descend the ramp of the Planalto Palace with members of the Three Powers, similar to what was done 1 day after the attacks in 2023. Poder360 found that squadron admiral Marcos Sampaio Olsen (Navy), general Tomás Paiva (Army) and air lieutenant brigadier Marcelo Damasceno (Aeronautics), at Lula’s request.
The idea is to give institutional symbolism to the act after the (Federal Police) report on an attempted coup d’état in 2022 pointed to the active participation of members of the Forces, including the High Command.
Representatives of the (Institute of National Historical and Artistic Heritage), the (Federal University of Pelotas) and social movements will also participate in the ceremony.
In 2024, Lula will also host an event to commemorate the 1st anniversary of the attack on the Three Powers.
The 1st event will be held at Palácio do Planalto, with the reintegration and delivery of destroyed works of art. Then, at 10:30 am, there will be the opening of the work “The Mulatas” (1962), by Di Cavalcanti, damaged during the invasion.

The (Workers’ Party) called for an event in Praça dos Três Poderes “in defense of democracy” to remember the “coup attempts” promoted by “bolsonaristas” on January 8, 2023. It is scheduled for Wednesday (Jan 8) at 11am.
