The new president of the City Council of , Juliano Lopes (Podemos), denies that he will base his actions on revanchism in relation to the city hall, which was defeated in the election of the Board of Directors.
Through the elected vice-mayor Álvaro Damião (União Brasil), the city hall began to articulate the candidacy of the government leader in the Chamber, Bruno Miranda (PDT), about a week before the dispute, and ended up defeated by 23 votes to 18.
“I saw the city hall’s attempt as disastrous, as there was an agreement with Mayor Fuad [Noman, PSD] that he would not intervene in the election”, Lopes told the column.
He also stated that he believes that the decision to interfere in the Legislative election was not made by the elected mayor, . Fuad is admitted to the ICU with respiratory failure
The mayor’s first term, which took office in 2022 after Alexandre Kalil (no party) left office to compete for the government of Minas, was marked by tension with the Legislature.
In addition to the establishment of CPIs against municipal services, the then president of the Chamber, Gabriel Azevedo (MDB), went months without meeting with the mayor.
Now, Lopes says that this situation will not happen again and that he is open to dialogue.
“We want to be an independent Chamber, not a submissive one. For my part, there is no type of revenge, any type of tension from the CPI. Of course, if there is a scandalous fact that really needs it, that’s fine. But creating it to disrupt the city hall We don’t have the slightest intention”, said the councilor.
Juliano Lopes belongs to the so-called “Aro Family”, a group of councilors linked to Marcelo Aro (PP), secretary of the Civil House of the Romeu Zema (Novo) government.
In the last legislature, an agreement between Aro and Gabriel Azevedo provided that Lopes would assume the second part of the term, starting in January 2024, but the two leaders split before that, and Gabriel remained at the head of the Legislature.
