MG: Cleitinho’s brother says the senator can go to Novo – 01/03/2025 – Panel

The mayor of Divinópolis, Gleidson Azevedo (Novo), said that his brother and (Republicans) can join Novo to run for the government of Minas Gerais.

Gleidson’s party is the same as that of the governor (Novo), who says he supports the candidacy of his vice-president, Mateus Simões (Novo), for his succession.

The mayor of Divinópolis, who defends his brother’s candidacy for government, says he believes in the possibility of a future collaboration between Simões and Cleitinho for a joint solution.

“My brother is not tied to any party, but Novo is the party with which he most identifies,” Gleidson told the Panel.

Christopher Laguna, state president of the party, said that the doors are open for the senator’s membership, but that .

“Cleitinho has to adjust in this context. Mateus is our name to the government of Minas, he is the most qualified to continue our work”, said Laguna.

Cleitinho told the column that conversations between him and the party are ongoing and a definition of membership to run for the Minas Gerais government could come out later this year. He also highlighted that polls of voting intentions place him in the lead, and Mateus in last.

A Quaest survey released in December showed that the senator appears ahead cited by 26% of voters in the stimulated survey. He appears ahead of Aécio Neves (PSDB), with 15%, and Alexandre Kalil (no party), with 14%. Next came Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD), with 7%, and Simões, with 2%.

The survey surveyed 1,480 voters between December 4th and 9th and has a margin of error of three percentage points.
