Records of incidents related to New Year’s Eve fell across the state of Rio, according to the State Secretariat of Civil Police. From the night of December 31st until the morning of January 1st 140 cases were recorded linked to New Year’s Eve celebrations.

In total, there were 81 recorded thefts (38 fewer than at the turn of 2023 to 2024, a drop of 32%)nine of which involved theft (without threat) of cell phones. There were also 10 records of robberies (15 fewer than on the previous New Year’s Eve, a reduction of 60%), with only two being theft (theft with threat) of cell phones.

The secretariat reported that it had set up a record security scheme for New Year’s Eve 2025, with 28,000 security agents working across the state. In Copacabana, the main stage of the celebration, 3,300 police officers, 12% more than in the previous year, were present to guarantee security. The operation featured cutting-edge technology, including 15 drones, aircraft and specialized service. The Military Police set up 19 blocking points on access roads and installed 78 observation platforms.

The Fire Department used advanced technology to ensure public safety during New Year’s Eve, with emphasis on drones equipped with megaphones, used to guide bathers and reinforce sound safety messages. The corporation made available for the first time the service of doctors on watercraft, which reduces the time taken to provide assistance in maritime emergencies by up to 80%.

One of the pieces of equipment acquired to be used in major events, the Integrated Mobile Command and Control Center, was parked at Praça do Lido. The structure monitors and coordinates security actions on the main stage of the celebrations, with the help of facial recognition drones, monitoring cameras and real-time communication with security forces.
