An additional 25,000 crimes were prevented in the central region and there was a 31.6% drop in vehicle thefts from January to November
The center of São Paulo achieved 20 months of consecutive decline in robberies and theft rates from April 2023 to November 2024, shows a survey by the SSP (Public Security Secretariat). As a result, 25,400 crimes of this nature were prevented in the central region. In the area of Open Use Scenes alone, there were 11,000 fewer occurrences, in the same comparison.
The central region is one of the priorities of the current administration, which has investigative activities to financially dismantle organized crime in the region, as well as restore a sense of security for residents and visitors.
As a result, the center saw a 31.6% drop in vehicle theft records from January to November last year, compared to the same period in 2023. The number went from 329 to 225. Thefts in general also reduced. They went from 22,826 to 16,497, a drop of 27.7%. As well as rapes, which went from 80 to 75 cases.
In the month of November, there was a 10.8% drop in thefts in general, from 5,549 to 4,947 compared to the same period of the previous year. The reduction was also observed in the rates of robberies in general and vehicle theft, which fell by 33% (from 1,867 to 1,250) and 16.1% (from 316 to 265), respectively.
Police productivity in the center
State security forces, from January to November, removed 3.1 tons of drugs from circulation – an increase of 21.84%. Of this total, 1.7 tons were marijuana, representing an increase of 592% compared to 2023, when 254.06 kg were collected.
In the same analysis, 247 illegal firearms were collected – an increase of 71.5% – and 57 stolen vehicles were recovered – an increase of 14%.
Specifically in the Open Use Scenes, more than 2,900 offenders were arrested and seized and 46 weapons were removed from the hands of criminals. 110 stolen and stolen vehicles were also recovered.
