The move to oat milk does not cost dairy farmers their livelihood

A coffee with oat milk has it all. Strictly speaking, 20 percent VAT for the plant-based alternative. For the classic with cow’s milk you only have to pay ten percent. This is what the Austrian tax authorities have wanted for decades. The aim was to strengthen Austrian agriculture, with a view to the rise of various crackers from Fanta to Cola, and to provide the population with affordable access to protein-rich nutrition after the Second World War. From the dairy farmers’ point of view, the financial inequality is plausible, but it is no longer appropriate.
