We are talking about Denmark, and a law that only allows the Danish flag to be raised inside the country. To fully understand this strange story you have to go back to 2023, when the government of the Nordic country repealed a law from 1915 in which it was prohibited to fly any flag other than the Danish one.
Faced with this atypical situation, the government decided that it was time to leave this anachronistic law behind and decided to end this law. What exceptions exist
In this sense, the Danish Minister of Justice, Peter Hummelgraard, assured that the only flag that should fly in the country is the red and white one, since it is the “most important national symbol” of the country and deserves a “very special” status. “.
Despite this, and as we have explained, there are some exceptions. One of them is that the flags of other Nordic countries are allowed to fly, so the flag from Finland or Sweden could be hoisted in Denmark. QLastly, there are others like those of Germany, Greenland or Faroe Islandswhich can also be flown legally in Denmark.
Along with these assumptions there are others that would also serve as exceptions. such as demonstrations or sporting events. For all this, it can be said that, although this law is in force, it has certain legal loopholes that allow foreign flags to be flown and hoisted.
