A fire at a vegetable market in northern China’s Hebei province killed eight people and injured 15, state television CCTV reported on Saturday.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire in the city of Zhangjiakou, which was extinguished just over an hour after it started at around 8:40 am local time, the broadcaster added.

Videos posted on social media showed the fire in the market, which was covered in huge dark clouds of smoke. Firefighters were also seen dousing the establishment with water when the flames appeared to be out.

Reuters was able to confirm the location of the videos by the shape, position and color of the signs and buildings that corresponded to archive footage. The date of the fire was confirmed by the local government on the situation and state TV reports.

Identified as Liguang vegetable market in some media, it opened in 2011 and sells items ranging from fruit and seafood to electronics, said company data provider Qichacha.
