Tricks for flawless window washing
Of course, window washing is not a science, but like any job, this activity has its own principles. It is ideal to wash the windows when it is cloudy and the sun is not shining too much. This would dry out the window pane, and then smudges would occur. Dirt is also easier to see when it’s not clear and the work just goes better.
The basis is some detergent and it is not necessary that it has a lot of bubbles. You can’t say that the bubbles help anything. Products often contain alcohol, even if one of the ingredients is ammonia, this is a big plus when cleaning. Although the substance is very smelly, it is a perfect cleaning agent.
In winter, it is also useful to treat the windows with a cleaner that prevents fogging of the windows. This is, for example, shaving foam, which is basically a highly whipped soap, although today the product also contains other substances.
The alpha and omega of window cleaning are definitely tools such as sponges, cloths, or a squeegee. Once you learn how to work with a trowel, you won’t want anything else. But it doesn’t always fit.
Window cleaners can be quite simple and if you have a good squeegee or swedish cloth, you can do it yourself and very well with just warm water enriched with, for example, degreasing vinegar or a drop of washing-up liquid. Vinegar water can be quite strong, a 1:3 ratio of vinegar and water is recommended.
A popular home remedy that is surprisingly good for degreasing and cleaning is also a strong black tea infusion.
It is advisable to first wipe very dirty windows dry with a soft or slightly damp cloth and only then use the cleaning agent on the window panels and window frames.
If you’ve recently purchased a pack of microfiber cloths, also known as a swedish cloth, then you may have noticed that there are usually several different types or textures of material in the set. They are also marked, directly on the tea towel or at least on the package of this set.
Among these towels, there is also one that has no hair or no loops and is rather smooth. This is ideal for washing and polishing windows. Remember that microfiber cloths are best used only very slightly moistened, they must be dry for polishing.
Fidget with a fork
You can even read about washing windows with a fork on the Internet. It sounds strange and very strange, but the truth is that it is not always easy to reach the farthest corners of the window table, and then a fork can come in handy.
The author of this manual made a simple tool out of a fork and a piece of sponge or cloth, which he then used to reach the upper corners of the windows more easily. This tool won’t clean your windows for you, but it can help you with the job. In addition, the fork is also useful if the windows are set in rails that need to be cleaned. Using a cloth-wrapped fork, you can also reach behind the frame or split windows, which consist of smaller frames with various indentations and decorations. Such windows made up of several smaller sheets of glass are very nice, but their maintenance is more demanding.
Whether you washed the windows with a cloth or a squeegee, it is often necessary to polish the window at the end. You don’t have to look for any modern gadgets. Buckskin or a very soft cloth are still among the really proven and functional helpers. Or crumpled newspapers, but even those can sometimes scratch the glass.
