Musician performed a procedure to remove his gallbladder; According to the medical bulletin from Hospital Sírio-Libanês, the procedure ‘went uneventfully’
The 84-year-old maestro underwent surgery after being admitted to Hospital Sírio-Libanês, in São Paulo, this Saturday (4). The information was confirmed by a medical bulletin released by the hospital. The musician underwent a procedure to remove his gallbladder. According to the medical report, the surgery “was uneventful”. João Carlos Martins is accompanied by the medical team of Raul Cutait and Roberto Kalil Filho, a cardiologist also responsible for monitoring the health status of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) after two medical procedures on his head in December.
Last year, he was given a biography by journalist Jamil Chade, The Indomitable: João Carlos Martins between sound and silence. The work follows the maestro’s trajectory from childhood, leaning over the piano under the watchful eye of his demanding father, through his youth, with the recognition of his brilliant talent, until his consecration, interrupted at its peak by the gradual atrophy of his hands. It also shows how he sought reinvention away from the stage, taking a breather before returning to music.
