A warm front will pass from the southwest on Sunday snowfall on most of the territory of Slovakia, which will gradually change to rain. In lower locations, where the temperature will remain below zero in places, the rain will be freezing. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) informed about it.
“A higher total of more than 3 mm is also not excluded, which, especially at a temperature below minus two degrees Celsius, can cause serious complications in transport,” meteorologists warned. Freezing rain can fall in the west of Slovakia already later in the afternoon, in the east only at night and on Monday morning.
“If you plan to travel longer routes between the west and east of Slovakia on Sunday, then especially in the evening hours increase caution on roads, especially in the west and northwest. In the morning, especially on Zemplín,” warned.
The Fire and Rescue Service (HaZZ) also points out the risks of freezing rain and ice. It warns of dangerous conditions on roads and sidewalks, which can be covered by up to a centimeter layer of ice. Firefighters therefore call for extremely careful driving and securing sidewalks in front of houses. “Be prepared for unpredictable situations with appropriate equipment and clothing,” they warned on the social network.
