The Ministry of Health began distributing 7.8 million units of the drugifampicin 4 in 1 for all Brazilian states. O The medicine, considered first-line in the treatment of tuberculosis, is essential to guarantee the recovery of patients and the control of this serious public health condition.

The medicine is also used for the treatment and prophylaxis of diseases such as leprosy, meningitis, brucellosis and hidradenitis. A shipment of the drug combination will meet national demand until the 1st quarter of 2025, ensuring the supply of the health network and the continuity of treatments throughout Brazil.

Rifampicin 4 in 1 combines 4 medicines in a single tablet (rifampicin 150mg + isoniazid 75mg + pyrazinamide 400mg + andtambutol 275mg tablet)facilitating treatment and improving patient compliancetes. With a simplified therapeutic plan, it becomes simpler for those suffering from the disease to follow the treatment appropriately, enhancing the possibilities of recovery and avoiding resistance to medications.

This measure reaffirms the commitment of the SUS (Unified Health System) to offering universal and free care, ensuring that no one is left withoutsupport needed for treatmenttuberculosis. Distribution ensures that States have the medicine available at service points and strengthens the fight against a disease that, although treatable, still impacts the lives of thousands of people in Brazil.

Tuberculosis

Tuberculosis is an infectious and transmissible disease caused by bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosisalso known as Koch’s bacillus. The disease primarily affects the lungs (pulmonary form), although it can affect other organs and/or systems. The main symptoms of the disease are: cough for 3 weeks or more, high fever, night sweats and weight loss. The extrapulmonary form, which affects organs other than the lungs, occurs more frequently in people living with HIV, especially those with immunological compromise.

The SUS guarantees the tuberculosis treatment free. Four medications are used to treat tuberculosis cases using the basic regimen: rifampicin, isoniazid, pyrazinamide and ethambutol. Treatment of the disease lasts at least 6 months.

Tuberculosis is curable when treatment is carried out properly, until the end. The role of health professionals in supporting and monitoring tuberculosis treatment, through comprehensive and humanized care, is very important. One of the main strategies to promote adherence to treatment is DOT (Directly Observed Treatment).
