When Zdeněk Troška (71) started working on the film Krakonoš and Skimen as an assistant director more than forty years ago, he was faced with a terrifying sight. In the middle of filming on a snowy hill, Lohniský died before his eyes.
“The scene was supposed to be filmed when he skis down to the valley from the top of the mountains. I went with him, he was carrying his skis and I was trying to fix the malfunctioning radio. I also told him to wait for me to take them from him. I was looking from the radio to the place where the shot was to be taken and suddenly I see that he lay down in the snow. I told him that it was not a suitable place to rest, but I immediately knew that something was wrong. I ran to him and saw how his eyes rolled.” described the horror of Troška.
Despite the fact that he called an ambulance, the actor could not be helped. “The doctors told us he would have died even if a paramedic had been there with us on the hill,” added the director.
Lohniský was born on November 5, 1920 in the village of Holice near Olomouc. Graduated from the Theater Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts (DAMU) and worked in several important Prague theaters.
His first wife was his colleague Zora Jirákováwith whom he had an only daughter, Michaela.
