Is the fern turning brown and drying up? This homemade conditioner will restore its lush green color

A fern is a potted plant straight from grandma’s windowsillwhich has recently become extremely fashionable again in Polish apartments. Year by year, young people increasingly appreciate its decorative values.

Thanks to their lush green leaves, ferns fit perfectly into boho and retro interiors. Unfortunately, this species can be easily neglected. If your fern is turning brown and dying, act immediately.

Ferns are a classic among house plants. They belong to the group of the oldest species that inhabit our planet. They were a hit just a few dozen years ago. In the Polish People’s Republic they could be found in almost every Polish apartment, then they fell out of favor, but for a few years they have been back on top.

Poles are picking up ferns again because of their beautiful, lush plumes of green leaves and their ability to purify the air. Unfortunately, caring for these flowers can be a challenge for beginners because they can easily dry out. Fortunately, there is a way to save ferns.

Ferns naturally grow in humid tropical forests, that’s why in winter they often dry out due to the dry air in the apartment. Remember to use a humidifier regularly, which will create optimal conditions for their development.

You can also decide to spray the fern leaves by hand, but do it in the morning so that the water has time to evaporate. Otherwise, the flower may get sick, and you don’t want that.

Place the plant in a place with diffused light and make sure that the soil in its fern pot is permeable, with peat and slightly moist. Do not overwater it, as this will cause the plant’s roots to rot. Use only soft, settled water to water the flower. It could be rainwater.

You don’t have to use expensive fertilizers from gardening stores to save a wasted plant. Use leftovers of popular fruits that you treat as waste. It’s about apple coresthat you throw into the trash bin under the sink every day.

Apple cores contain natural sugars, and more importantly, potassium and phosphoruswhich have a positive impact on the quality of the soil, strengthen the root system and leaves and improve their firmness, have antioxidants and they help maintain a slightly acidic soil pH, which is crucial for keeping ferns in good condition.

To prepare homemade apple core supplement, you will need 1 liter of water and 4 pieces of fruit. You can eat them or use them for apple pie (it’s up to you what you do with them). But don’t throw away the leftovers.

Cut the apple cores into smaller pieces to speed up fermentation. Put them in a large jar and fill with water, then cover the container with gauze so that air can flow freely into the vessel. Wait 4 days, stirring the contents of the jar daily.

Don’t worry about the characteristic smell. Strain the liquid through a strainer and dilute apple core fertilizer with fresh water in proportions of 1:3. Water the fern with this conditioner every 2 weeks (store in the refrigerator for a maximum of 2 weeks). Be careful not to get the leaves wet.
