Magaly and Suely Gomes Alves de Sousa are from the family of senator Jussara Lima (PSD-PI), substitute for Wellington Dias (Social Development); Bolsa Família is linked to the ministry

Two sisters of the senator (PSD-PI), deputy to the Minister of Development and Social Assistance, (PT), have received aid from the federal government since May 2013. At the time, the Bolsa Família was R$166.

The names of Magaly Gomes Alves de Sousa and Suely Gomes Alves de Sousa appear on the Transparency Portal linked to the CGU (General Comptroller of the Union). Jussara’s salary as senator, in turn, has been R$44,008.52 since February 2024, and will be readjusted to R$46,366.19 from the same month of this year. The values were approved in the legislative decree.

During the (PL) government, the sisters stopped receiving the amount because the then president extinguished the program and created Auxílio Brasil. The benefit began to be paid in November 2021, during the covid-19 pandemic, with a value of R$400. In 2022, Bolsonaro increased the payment to R$600.

In March 2023, the president (PT) returned Bolsa Família, which replaced Auxílio Brasil, bringing new benefits.

The value remains R$600, but with an additional R$150 per child up to 6 years old and R$50 for pregnant women and children or adolescents aged 7 to 18 years old. The cost of Bolsa Família to the government is estimated at R$168 billion.

In Fronteiras (PI), a city neighboring Magaly and Suely, another sister of the senator, Conceição Alves, heads the Municipal Secretariat of Culture. The municipality’s Social Assistance Secretary, Eudinar Agripino, is Jussara’s sister-in-law.
