Sporting midfielder Morten Hjulmand was named the best Danish footballer of 2024, the Danish Football Federation (DBU) announced this Saturday via its official website.
“The Danish players decided and Morten Hjulmand and Pernille Harder were named Players of the Year 2024. It is the most prestigious individual award for Danish football players, as it is the teammates themselves who decide who receives the award,” says the DBU.
The 25-year-old ‘Leonine’ captain succeeds Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen, honored with the award in 2023.
Hjulmand, who was signed by Sporting from Italian side Lecce at the start of last season in 2023/24, has featured in 65 games and scored six goals during the 2024 calendar year (January to December) for Sporting and the Denmark national team, winning the national champion title with the ‘green and whites’.
Bayern Munich forward Pernille Harder was named Player of the Year, winning this trophy for the eighth time, having already received it in 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020.
