Park Jong-un was accused last week of obstructing the investigation, today they also added the charge of participating in the rebellion.
The chief of security for suspended South Korean President Jun Sok-yol was charged on Sunday as part of an ongoing investigation into the short-lived martial law the president declared last month. According to the police, Park Jong-jun was additionally charged with participating in the rebellion. TASR informs based on a report by the Jonhap agency.
Last week, Pak was also accused of obstructing the investigation, as members of the presidential guard, along with military personnel, prevented officers from the Corruption Perceptions Office (CIO) from arresting Jun, who is the subject of an arrest warrant. In addition to soldiers and security guards, about 200 people also blocked the entrance to the presidential residence.
Jun’s lawyers contested both the arrest and search warrants, saying they could not be executed at his residence because of a law that protects locations potentially connected to military secrets from being searched without the consent of the person responsible, which is Jun. The police therefore summoned Pak for questioning in this regard. He, along with other security guards, refused to do so. In a press release, security said that given the seriousness of the situation in providing security for the suspended President Jun, they cannot leave their posts “even for a moment”.
Jonhap added that six opposition parties, led by the Democratic Party, are now demanding Pak be punished for his role in sabotaging Jun’s arrest attempt.
